BUFFALO, N.Y. — Mary Catherine Malley, Esq., a partner in Hodgson Russ LLP's Corporate & Securities Practice Group, and R. Kent Roberts, Esq., an attorney in the Firm's Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group, served on the faculty of the Erie Institute of Law's CLE seminar entitled "Technology Transfer — Buffalo's New Economic Engine: Are You and Your Client Ready for the Ride?" December 4, Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

The conference focused on educating lawyers, business professionals, and entrepreneurs on technology transfer and commercialization transactions. The conference provided insight into the technology transfer and commercialization transaction from the perspectives of the technology transfer professionals in a university and research institute, intellectual property counsel, venture capitalists, and business lawyers or advisors to entrepreneurs, companies, and venture capital investors.

Ms. Malley coordinated the event and served as the moderator of the program. She concentrates her practice in securities law, including corporate and securities law governance and compliance, public and private offerings, venture capital financings, executive compensation, and mergers and acquisitions. She is chair of the Corporation Law Committee of the Erie County Bar Association and was recently honored as one of Business First's "40 Under Forty" young business leaders.

Mr. Roberts delivered a presentation that assessed technology transfer from the perspective of intellectual property attorneys. He concentrates his practice in intellectual property matters related to patents, trademarks, and copyrights. His practice includes counseling clients on protecting interests in electrical, software, and mechanical inventions. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Roberts worked as a process engineer and as a design engineer, providing analysis and technical support to optimize various oil refinery facilities.
