BUFFALO, N.Y. — Harry G. Meyer, Esq., a partner in Hodgson Russ LLP's Real Estate & Finance Practice Group, served as program chair for the New York State Bar Association Real Property Law Section's annual summer meeting, July 14-17, Lake Placid Resort Hotel and Golf Club, Lake Placid, N.Y.

Mr. Meyer gave a presentation entitled "Unauthorized Practice of Law Developments in New York State," which addressed issues and ethical responsibilities related to dealing with non-lawyers closing transactions and the roles of the Federal Trade Commission and the Anti-Trust Division of the Justice Department. He also delivered the opening remarks at the seminar.

Paul R. Comeau, chair of Hodgson Russ and a partner in its State & Local Tax Practice Group, delivered a presentation entitled "The Marriage of Taxes and Real Estate: Secrets for a Successful Marriage" along with his wife, Victoria D'Angelo, a trusts and estates attorney in private practice. Mr. Comeau and Ms. D'Angelo focused on real-estate-related tax and family financial planning traps and opportunities that confront real estate attorneys.

The seminar featured many prominent speakers from across the state, including Erie County Surrogate Judge Barbara Howe, who spoke on the special situations and challenges that arise when clients and the parties with whom they deal develop emotional attachments to their real property.

Mr. Meyer concentrates his practice in commercial and industrial real property taxation, acquisitions, development, and environmental concerns, including wetlands delineation, protection, enhancement, and water resources. He lectures extensively about commercial and industrial real estate, taxation, development, and environmental issues.

Mr. Comeau focuses his practice on taxation law, business planning law, and business acquisitions law. He has practiced New York tax law since 1973. He serves as co-editor of New York Tax Service and co-editor of New York Tax Cases, and he is co-chair of the Multistate Tax Committee of the New York State Bar Association Tax Section.
