NEW YORK CITY — Lawrence R. Bailey Jr., a partner in Hodgson Russ LLP's Torts, Insurance & Products Liability Practice Group, is president-elect of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel. The election took place July 26. Mr. Bailey will serve as president-elect for one year; he will then become the first African-American president of the association.

Mr. Bailey concentrates his practice in transportation-related issues, including the Federal Employers' Liability Act and other railroad matters, civil litigation, personal injury defense, and corporate litigation. He formerly served as eastern vice president and as a member of the executive committee of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel. Known for being a skilled litigator, Mr. Bailey has written articles and lectured on numerous occasions on trial tactics, trial presentation, and various other topics.

The National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel is a group of approximately 1,000 attorneys who defend railroads and their subsidiary companies. Founded in 1955, the association provides a vehicle for the exchange of ideas among members and helps them keep up to date on the latest developments in the law affecting railroad litigation.

With more than 220 attorneys practicing in all major areas of law, Hodgson Russ is among the 200 largest law firms headquartered in the United States. It is one of approximately 100 firms in the country listed in America's Greatest Places to Work With a Law Degree. In June 2005, Hodgson Russ received the Carol S. Knox Family-Friendly Employer Award from the Capital District Women's Bar Association. The Firm, which was established in 1817 and is among the oldest law firms in the United States, is the only law firm that can count two former U.S. presidents, Millard Fillmore and Grover Cleveland, among its alumni.

Hodgson Russ has seven offices: Albany, Buffalo, and Johnstown, and two in New York City, New York; Boca Raton, Florida; and Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The New York City offices are in Carnegie Hall Tower and the Lincoln Building.
