Cathy Fleming to Participate in National Association of Women Lawyers Leadership Summit

December 3, 2010

Cathy Fleming, a partner in Hodgson Russ’s Business Litigation Practice Group in the New York City office and a nationally recognized thought leader on women's issues, has accepted an invitation to participate in the National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL) Summit, a gathering of general counsel, senior in-house counsel, law firm managing and equity partners, and key opinion leaders to address the status and advancement of women in the legal profession. The Summit will be held December 7 in New York City.

Hodgson Russ attorneys Maureen R. Monaghan, Jacquelyn R. Trussell, and Jillian M. Searles will also attend the Summit as young professionals.

A primary goal of the Summit is to review and update the best practices developed by NAWL to help firms, corporations, and law schools achieve the NAWL Challenge — increasing their number of women equity partners, general counsel, and tenured faculty to 30 percent by 2015. These best practices were initially developed at NAWL's initial 2007 Summit (in which Ms. Fleming, who served as president of NAWL in the year leading up to the Summit, also participated). The findings and recommendations from the 2007 Summit received broad media and public attention and are outlined in a report titled “Actions for Advancing Women Into Law Firm Leadership.”

In addition to her practice involving complex civil and white collar practice, Ms. Fleming is a regular speaker on issues concerning diversity in the legal profession, and she counsels corporations and law firms on implementing and enriching diversity initiatives. She is the former president of NAWL and a founding member of the NAWL Foundation. In 2008, the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association (NJWLA) honored her with the NJWLA's Platinum Award for Women's Initiative & Leaders in Law. She was named a Woman of Power & Influence by the National Organization for Women in 2007.
