Mark S. Klein a Speaker at AICPA Conference on Tax Strategies for the High-Income IndividualMay 26, 2010 Mark S. Klein, a partner in the Hodgson Russ LLP State & Local Tax Practice Group, was a speaker at the American Institute of CPAs Conference on Tax Strategies for the High-Income Individual, held May 3-4 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. The conference attracted tax and accounting professionals from across the country and featured industry experts who provided guidance on recent tax updates, estate planning changes, and a forecast for the year ahead. Mr. Klein’s presentation, “State Tax Planning: Nexus,” focused on the way states, faced with growing deficits, are aggressively targeting out-of-state businesses and individuals who might be liable for taxes. He discussed the rules that allow states to tax nonresidents and provided guidance on how to reduce those taxes, protect assets, and avoid pitfalls when working in or moving between multiple states. Topics included changing residency, filing obligations in other states, overview of tax rules and compliance initiatives, and planning opportunities and traps for the unwary. |
