Trusted advisors, comprehensive solutions

Hodgson Russ’s Banking Practice Group provides a wide range of legal services to banks and customers of banks. Our banking clients range from large multistate banks to small community banks.

Our attorneys have extensive expertise representing commercial and savings banks and other financial institutions with respect to regulatory matters involving U.S. federal, New York State, and Florida law. Our expertise encompasses the full range of federal law that applies to the provision of consumer financial services, including truth-in-lending, truth-in-savings, equal credit opportunity, fair lending, electronic funds transfer, fair credit reporting, and privacy statutes and regulations, as well as state statutes and regulations that must often be reconciled with federal requirements.

We advise banks and other financial institutions on day-to-day compliance matters, we assist them in resolving issues raised by federal and state regulatory agencies and consumers, and we work with them in developing and updating consumer financial service products, such as credit and debit cards, home equity loans, lines of credit, and Internet banking and bill paying services. We have provided banking clients with the legal foundations under New York law for a number of innovative consumer banking
products not previously offered under New York law. Recently a major focus of our bank regulatory practice has been compliance with new federal privacy and information security requirements.

The Hodgson Russ advantage

The Banking Practice Group provides counseling and conducts corporate compliance programs, seminars, and other educational offerings to assist clients in assessing potential risks and legal exposures before disputes.
