Department of Labor releases 2007 labor certification data
The U.S. Department of Labor has released summary data reporting on 2007 PERM Labor Certification Program results. In total, 98,753 applications were processed in 2007, 85,112 of whom were certified. Top economic sectors in which applicants were certified include information technology, advanced manufacturing, educational services, financial service, and health care services. Top countries of citizenship for workers certified include India, China, Mexico, South Korea, and Canada. Top occupations in demand include computer software engineers, system software engineers, computer system analysts, restaurant cooks, computer and information system managers, electronics engineers, financial analysts, market research analysts, electrical engineers, and computer programmers. Top U.S. states in which workers were certified include California, New York, New Jersey, Texas, and Florida.
Foreign workers representing 176 countries were certified for permanent work in the United States, with nearly six out of 10 cases certified for small employers (fewer than 250 workers).
