Green Card Scam Circulating Via E-Mail
A fraudulent e-mail telling recipients they have won the U.S. Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery is currently circulating the World Wide Web. The e-mail, which purports to be from the U.S. Department of State, requests fees and personal information from the "winner" in connection with the DV Lottery. Individuals should be aware that notification of winning the DV lottery is sent by mail only, and should not respond in any way to e-mails requesting fees, documents or additional personal information.
The next lottery for which potential immigrants can apply is the 2010 Diversity Visa Lottery. Information about how and when to apply for the 2010 lottery will be widely publicized by the Department of State later this year. Registration is completed through the Department of State's official website (www.dvlottery.state.gov), and is free of charge.
