USCIS to Implement New Naturalization Test in 2008
U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced 100 questions and answers to the civics component of a new naturalization test starting October 1, 2008. A new test has been in the works since 2000 and widely anticipated since the USCIS launched a pilot program earlier this year. All applicants who apply and are interviewed before October 1, 2008, will take the current (unrevised) test, and all applicants who apply and are interviewed after October 1, 2008, will take the revised test. Applicants who apply for citizenship before October 1, 2008, but are interviewed after October 1, 2008, will have the choice of taking the old or new test. Naturalization tests are made up of three components: (1) civics, (2) reading, and (3) writing. Volunteers who participated in the pilot program for the new test achieved an average 92.4% pass rate on the first try. A comparison between the old and new civics-component questions can be found at www.uscis.gov. Additional questions should be directed to your Hodgson Russ immigration attorney.
