USCIS Begins Requiring Biometrics From Re-Entry Permit and Refugee Travel Document Applicants.

Effective March 5, 2008, U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) began requiring all re‑entry permit and refugee travel document applicants ages 14 through 79 to provide biometrics (fingerprints and/or photographs) at a USCIS Application Support Center (ASC) for background and security checks before departing the United States. Shortly after the applicant files his/her application, USCIS will mail the applicant a receipt notice and an ASC scheduling notice.

Applicants may request expedited processing by submitting: (1) pre-paid express mailers with the initial application for USCIS to send the applicant his or her receipt and ASC appointment notice, and the completed re-entry permit or refugee travel document, if approved, and (2) a list of the reasons why expedited processing is necessary.

Applicants will also now need to pay an $80 biometrics fee in addition to the Form I-131 application fee.
