USCIS Proposes Three-Year TN Status for Canadians and Mexicans
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will publish a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to increase the maximum amount of time Trade NAFTA (TN) professionals can stay in the Unites States before having to apply for an extension of status. Applicants for TN status are currently approved for a maximum of one year at a time, and they must re-apply to maintain TN status once the one-year period is up. Under the proposed rule, TN applicants would be allowed to stay in the United States for up to three years. Extensions would also be granted for periods of up to three years at a time. Applicants will be able to seek readmission or extensions of status as long as they continue to qualify under the NAFTA regulations and remain otherwise eligible.
