Many permanent resident cards, a/k/a “green cards,” issued prior to 1989, contain no expiration date. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has published a proposed rule that would require permanent residents holding a green card with no expiration date to apply for a new permanent resident card. The proposed rule would also terminate the validity of any green card without an expiration date.
