Joseph Scott III, a partner in Hodgson Russ LLP’s Real Estate & Finance Practice Group, is listed in the 2008 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Scott is the managing partner of the law firm’s Albany office. Published biennially since 1983 and now published annually, The Best Lawyers in America is compiled through an extensive peer-review survey in which thousands of the top lawyers in the United States confidentially evaluate their professional peers. Mr. Scott has practiced exclusively in the area of industrial development agency finance, public authority finance, and municipal and school district finance since graduating from law school in 1983. He has acted as issuer's counsel, bond counsel, and underwriter's counsel on a variety of industrial development agency and public authority projects. Examples of industrial development agency projects handled by Mr. Scott include commercial, solid waste, manufacturing, co-generation, nonprofit, and recreational projects. Examples of public authority projects handled by Mr. Scott include housing projects, electrical distribution, hydro-electric, parking, water and sewer systems, airport, and residential mortgage projects. As bond counsel, Mr. Scott has rendered tax opinions on current refundings, new money financings, and advance refundings. Mr. Scott has extensive experience working with New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation and USDA–Rural Development in financing water and sewer capital projects. He is an approved provider of Public Authorities Accountability Act training. Hodgson Russ recently relocated to the new corporate tower at 677 Broadway in downtown Albany, allowing the firm to continue to expand our presence in the Capital District and provide increased depth in important niche practice areas, including bond counsel, municipal law, and other real estate and finance areas; federal, state, and local taxation; bankruptcy and commercial litigation; estate planning and administration; torts, insurance, and products liability; and corporate and business law.
