Sales Tax Relief for NYS Residents
As a result of the passage of the federal economic recovery bill, New York State Governor David Paterson and the State Legislature have announced an agreement to eliminate the proposal to aggressively expand the base of New York's sales and use tax. The following proposed taxes will be eliminated from the budget:
▪ Tax on all clothing
▪ Tax on sugary soft drinks
▪ Tax on cable and satellite television
▪ Tax on personal and credit services
▪ Tax on entertainment and participatory sports
▪ Tax on digital downloads (except downloadable software)
▪ Tax on coupons issued by stores
▪ Expansion of the sales tax to most capital improvements
