Hodgson Russ’s Florida Family & Marital Law Practice Group attorneys have extensive experience representing individuals and families in all areas of Florida family and marital law. Matrimonial matters Prenuptial, postnuptial, and cohabitation agreements allow couples to decide how their property, finances, and family issues will be handled in the case of divorce or death. Our attorneys are experienced with all aspects of these important proactive documents. When a divorce, separation, or annulment does occur, Hodgson Russ’s family law attorneys bring extensive experience to the process of negotiating and mediating a settlement. If proceeding to court is necessary, our skilled trial attorneys aggressively advocate for clients. Custody and support Hodgson Russ family law attorneys represent clients with a wide range of child custody and support-related needs, including the following: • Enforcement of out-of-state support awards • Post-judgment modification or enforcement of custody, spousal, and child-support awards • Paternity • Guardian ad litem and attorney ad litem services (a guardian ad litem is a person appointed by the court to look out for the best interests of a child during the course of legal proceedings) • International custody (as specified in the Hague Convention) Other family issues Every family has different needs, so Hodgson Russ’s practice is not limited to spousal and child-related issues. Some examples of our other family law services include advising on mental-health assessment, commitment proceedings, and issues involving the care of children and the elderly. Hodgson Russ attorneys also provide services in bankruptcy-related matrimonial issues and assist clients in navigating the complex bankruptcy system. As a full-service law firm with attorneys practicing in all major areas of law, our family law clients have easy access to attorneys concentrating in such related areas as federal and multistate taxation, estate and trust planning, real property, and all areas of family business law. Sharing our knowledge In addition to providing experienced legal representation, we also assist clients by offering annual seminars about divorce law issues for accountants and mental health professionals. Yueh-Mei Kim Nutter 561.862.4134 knutter@hodgsonruss.com Partner Kim Nutter leads Hodgson Russ’s Florida Family & Marital Law Practice Group. She is certified by the Board of Legal Specialization and Education of The Florida Bar as a specialist in marital and family law. Ms. Nutter is also a certified family mediator (1995, Supreme Court of Florida) and a court-appointed guardian ad litem (1991, Supreme Court of Florida). In addition to family law, she also has experience handling collections, probate, and estate matters. Ms. Nutter currently serves as co-chair of the Mediation Committee of the South Palm Beach County Bar Association. She is a member of the Guardian Ad Litem Family Law, Criminal, and Dependency Section for the 15th Judicial Circuit for Palm Beach County (since February 1993) and is a founding member of Collaborative Family Lawyers of South Florida, Inc. She is admitted to practice in Florida (1987).Patricia Alexander561.862.4141palexand@hodgsonruss.comMs. Alexander concentrates her practice in all areas of marital and family law litigation. In addition to complex divorce and custody cases and paternity and other family-related matters, Ms. Alexander also has experience handling adoption, surrogacy, mental illness, and Marchman Act proceedings. Active in numerous civic activities in South Florida, Ms. Alexander is the director of the South Palm Beach County Bar Association and a member of the executive council of the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar. She is admitted to practice in Florida (1995).
David A. Riggs 561.862.4156 driggs@hodgsonruss.com Prior to joining Hodgson Russ as a partner in the Florida Family & Marital Law Practice Group, Mr. Riggs was a principal in the Boca Raton law firm of Hunt, Cook, Riggs, Gross & Greenberg, P.A. He concentrates his practice in the area of marital and family law and also has experience in business law, real estate law, probate and estate planning, and general litigation. Mr. Riggs served as a member of The Florida Bar’s Grievance Committee from 1999–2002 and is currently a member of the South Palm Beach County Bar Association and its Family Law Section. He is a member of the Duke University Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee and a member of the board of directors of Boca Hoops, Inc., a recreational youth basketball program. He is admitted to practice in Florida (1984), New York (1980), and New Hampshire (1975).
Mireya L. RiveraDirect tel: 561.862.4196mrivera@hodgsonruss.com Ms. Rivera concentrates her practice in the areas of family and marital law and business litigation. From 2005-06, she served as a staff attorney/judicial law clerk in the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, Palm Beach County, Florida. She is an adult education teacher for the Palm Beach County School District and was a research assistant at Florida Atlantic University and at the University of Rochester. She is admitted to practice in Florida (2005). Ms. Rivera is fluent in Spanish.
