89th Annual New York State School Boards Association Convention

Attorneys in the Hodgson Russ Education Law Practice Group were speakers at the 89th Annual New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) Convention and Educational Trade Show, held October 16-19 in New York City. Hodgson Russ was a sponsor of the convention, which is the premier educational and business development event for school board members and administrators across New York State.

Jeffrey F. Swiatek presented at the 12th Annual Pre-Convention School Law Seminar on the topic “School Boards and Student Discipline.” The presentation addressed the role of school boards in student misconduct matters and their authority to maintain order in the schools, ranging from the adoption of codes of conduct to the review of student disciplinary appeals.

At the convention, Ryan L. Everhart presented a workshop titled “Educating Students With Autism.” The workshop addressed the requirements and the common legal issues school boards face regarding how students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder should be educated.
