Hodgson Russ Offers Clients the Services of a New Tax Dispute Resolution Group

October 14, 2004

Hodgson Russ LLP has established a new Tax Dispute Resolution Practice Group to provide clients with a range of services, including broad tax analysis, response to Internal Revenue Service and state and local inquiries, audit management, and administrative or judicial resolution. The group draws on the experience of more than 50 attorneys whose practices collectively include virtually every aspect of tax law.

The group, which has extensive experience in local, state, federal, international, and multijursdictional tax law, plans to minimize taxes and avoid tax disputes. But in the case of a tax dispute, understanding of the tax law combines with the group's long-term experience resolving disputes, whether through negotiation or litigation. Partner Alice A. Joseffer, the group's lead attorney, described this combination of substantive and procedural experience as "the key to the group's success."

The Tax Dispute Resolution Practice Group serves a diverse array of clients, including privately held and publicly traded businesses involved in a range of industries, including financial services, health care and pharmaceuticals, insurance, Internet and other high-tech businesses, manufacturing, real estate, technology, telecommunications, and transportation. Other clients include individuals and tax-exempt organizations such as public charities, private foundations, and trade and professional organizations.

In addition to leading the Tax Dispute Resolution Practice Group, Ms. Joseffer is a member of the General/International Tax and International/Cross-Border Practice Groups. She has practiced tax law since 1983 and concentrates her practice in international and business planning matters and tax dispute resolution for individuals and businesses. She represents taxpayers in contested tax matters of all types in examination, appeals, and litigation. Ms. Joseffer earned a J.D. magna cum laude from the University at Buffalo Law School, State University of New York and a B.A. summa cum laude from the University of Denver.

With approximately 200 attorneys practicing in all major areas of law, Hodgson Russ is the 206th largest law firm headquartered in the United States, as reported by the National Law Journal. It is one of approximately 100 firms in the country listed in America's Greatest Places to Work With a Law Degree. In addition, Hodgson Russ was recently named one of the country's most admired employers by American Employer Digest. The Firm, which was established in 1817 and is among the oldest law firms in the U.S., is the only law firm that can count two former U.S. presidents, Millard Fillmore and Grover Cleveland, among its alumni. The eight offices of Hodgson Russ are located in Albany, Buffalo, JFK International Airport, Johnstown, and New York City, New York; Boca Raton and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
