Samuel is a member of the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice, where he focuses on the preparation and prosecution of utility and design patent applications. He represents a variety of domestic and international clients in the mechanical and electromechanical arts. He has particular experience in the following fields: medical devices; consumer products and appliances; sensors; “green” technologies; heat-transfer devices; visual displays; speech recognition; robotics; mobile devices and networking; telecommunications; manufacturing processes; and automotive technologies.

Prior to his admission to the bar as an attorney, Samuel was a registered patent agent with the firm. His mechanical engineering background, which includes subject-matter knowledge in manufacturing processes, manufacturing automation, and sustainable manufacturing, provides a basis for understanding new technologies in the wide range of mechanical fields that he encounters in his work.

Before joining Hodgson Russ, Samuel completed an internship related to material handling for a company that specializes in thermal management and liquid cooling solutions, and an internship related to HVAC and plumbing systems for a construction management company, from which he gained practical industry experience.

While in law school, he was a member of the Buffalo Law Review, which published his comment titled “Loosening the Grasp of Restriction by Allowing Multiple Claims in Design Patents.”
