Robert Sands III is an associate in the Real Estate, Environment, Energy & Finance Practice at Hodgson Russ. He advises clients on legal matters related to energy development and emerging technologies, with a focus on renewable energy projects and the integration of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity into business operations.
Robert works closely with clients on renewable energy projects, particularly transmission line developments. He advises clients from project inception through completion, guiding them through leases, easements, title due diligence, regulatory reviews, and third-party agreements. His experience includes managing large-scale, multi-billion-dollar transmission line projects, where he coordinates with external vendors, integrates technical findings into legal analyses, and develops practical solutions to complex challenges. He also advises on solar and wind projects, focusing on land use, existing encumbrances, and local regulations to ensure project viability.
In addition to transactional work, Robert supports clients with the financing aspects of renewable energy projects, including initial funding, refinancing, and collateral arrangements. He reviews loan documents, finance agreements, and collateral packages to evaluate the strength and structure of each transaction.
Robert’s practice also includes advising clients on the legal implications of adopting artificial intelligence (AI) and managing cybersecurity risks. He reviews vendor contracts for businesses integrating AI tools, helping them balance innovation with data privacy and regulatory compliance. His work supports clients in leveraging new technologies while safeguarding sensitive information.
