Hodgson Russ Appoints Experienced Technology Veteran as CIO to Continue Tradition of Innovation and Client Service Excellence
Hodgson Russ LLP is pleased to announce that Dan McLoughlin has joined the firm as Chief Information Officer (CIO), succeeding Kathy Krieger, who has served the firm for more than 40 years.
As CIO, McLoughlin oversees the information technology (IT) and digital security functions at the firm, including technology planning and innovation, cybersecurity, data privacy, operations, and data management.
“I’ve always admired Hodgson Russ for its outstanding reputation in the legal community,” said McLoughlin. “This is a firm that truly punches above its weight, delivering exceptional client service while continuing to grow and innovate,” he continued. “Joining this firm means being part of an organization that blends excellence with forward-thinking strategies, and I’m excited to help shape its next chapter.”
Looking ahead, McLoughlin aims to build on Hodgson Russ’ strong technology foundation to position the firm for long-term success. A cornerstone of this strategy is the thoughtful, responsible adoption of emerging technologies to equip attorneys with tools that enhance productivity and enable them to deliver exceptional results.
“We are excited to have Dan on the leadership team during this time of rapid technological evolution in the legal industry,” said Mairi Stewart, Global Head of Attorney & Law Firm Operations. “His deep experience leading technology at an AmLaw 100 firm will be invaluable as we continue to execute on our strategic growth and innovation plans.” She continued, “Of particular focus in 2026 will be the integration of generative AI tools into our legal service operations.”
“My focus as a technology leader has always been to leverage technology innovations to create efficiencies that help attorneys work smarter and more effectively to deliver an even greater value to clients,” said McLoughlin, acknowledging he has big shoes to fill. In her four decades leading the firm’s technology strategy, Krieger led the transitions from typewriters to traditional IT systems to the current cloud-based infrastructure, an evolution that strengthened agility, scalability, and resilience while safeguarding client data.
“Kathy set an incredible standard for innovation and security,” said McLoughlin. “Her leadership modernized operations, empowered teams, and created the strong platform we have today. I look forward to building on that legacy and driving the firm into its next era of growth.”
Prior to joining Hodgson Russ, McLoughlin served as Chief Technology Officer at a global Am Law 100 firm for 14 years, where he directed major technology integrations, including the 2020 merger of Drinker Biddle and Faegre Baker Daniels.
