We are proud to provide our Canadian clients with experienced U.S. legal representation that focuses on the unique needs of the Canadian market. For more than 60 years, Canadian businesses, individuals, nonprofits, and their law firms have turned to Hodgson Russ for U.S. legal advice that is precisely calibrated for Canadian clients. In 1989, after many decades of serving Canadian clients primarily from its Buffalo, New York, office, Hodgson Russ opened a full-time office in Mississauga, Ontario. In 1999, the firm moved its office to the Financial District in downtown Toronto, where it remains. The office is currently located in the Bay Adelaide Center East Tower.
Our Commitment to Canada
Today, Hodgson Russ is still one of only a few law firms in Canada devoted exclusively to practicing U.S. law. With over 60 attorneys practicing in our Canada cross-border practice group – some of whom were born or raised in Canada - Hodgson Russ helps Canadian clients navigate the sometimes complex and overlapping federal and state U.S. laws affecting their U.S. interests. Hodgson Russ is Canada's U.S. law firm.
While our practice is restricted to U.S. law, we are frequently invited to present to peers and members of the public on cross-border legal topics by both Canadian and American organizations, including the American Bar Association, the American Chamber of Commerce in Canada, the Canadian Employee Relocation Council, the Canadian Tax Foundation, Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the Council of American States in Canada, the Law Society of Ontario, and the Ontario Bar Association.
At Hodgson Russ, we embrace our role as responsible corporate citizens, and we work hard to identify causes that have meaning for our attorneys, our staff, and our communities. We are long-standing supporters of the Shaw Festival Theatre, Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and a variety of other organizations in the greater Toronto and southern Ontario areas. Our commitment to Canada is as strong today as it was 35 years ago.
