Kenmore announces plans for KPD building expansion

Henry A. Zomerfeld is representing the Village of Kenmore for an eminent domain issue involving the expansion of the Kenmore Police Department Building.

At a public hearing to discuss the eminent domain procedure, held last week, Zomerfeld explained the need for expansion, and why the Village of Kenmore is using eminent domain to acquire the needed property. The original building was built in 1951 to fit the needs at that time. Space is cramped and limited, and no longer meets the needs of the department, such as a restroom for the female staff, a handicap accessible bathroom, and sufficient parking, all which will be added through the expansion. The village did make an offer with a sales value reflective of the current market; however, the business disagreed with the offer, leaving few other viable options other than pursuing acquisition through eminent domain.
