Henry Zomerfeld Appointed Chair of the Environmental Law Committee of the Bar Association of Erie County

Hodgson Russ Press Release
June 23, 2021

Hodgson Russ Senior Associate Henry A. Zomerfeld has been appointed chair of the Environmental Law Committee of the Bar Association of Erie County (BAEC). The Environmental Law Committee provides environmental practitioners and other attorneys with a forum for discussion of current environmental legal trends, DEC/EPA regulatory, statutory, and enforcement initiatives, and current or emerging case law.

At Hodgson Russ, Zomerfeld concentrates his practice in environmental, energy, and municipal law. This includes representing businesses and municipalities in a variety of commercial and contract-based litigation, as well as advising clients on regulatory compliance, regulatory enforcement actions, and environmental risk assessment issues. He also represents municipalities in a variety of matters, including those related to takings, zoning, land use, and code enforcement.

Zomerfeld also advises developers of renewable energy projects across New York State on real property tax implications, including the interplay of Real Property Tax Law Section 487 exemptions and payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) agreements. Through his efforts, developers are able to better evaluate and prepare for real estate tax liabilities before and during the life of those projects.

He is a member of the New York State Bar Association’s Committee on Condemnation, Certiorari and Real Estate Taxation, an associate member of the New York State Assessors Association, and is listed as a Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch, (Commercial Litigation), 2021.
