At this seminar, Joshua Feinstein presented on a number of critical issues for municipalities and their officials, who constantly face the threat of allegations of civil rights violations in areas such as land use, excessive force, and employment discrimination. Joshua examined the key stages of defending a civil rights case from answering the complaint and discovery through summary judgment and trial, with an emphasis on cost-efficient strategies for achieving favorable resolutions. Topics included rapidly evolving aspects of federal practice, such as electronic discovery and defenses unique to individual officials, as well as managing potential conflicts among multiple defendants.
