Christian Soller is co-leader of the Product Liability & Complex Tort Practice at Hodgson Russ. He served as Managing Partner of the Capital District offices from 2020 to 2025, a period marked by substantial growth.

An accomplished trial lawyer, Christian is known for securing favorable outcomes for clients in both business and personal injury litigation across New York State. He has earned a reputation for his willingness to try difficult cases, regardless of venue, and prevail, including in historically volatile jurisdictions such as Kings and New York Counties.

Christian’s recent trial victories include:

  • 2024: Secured a six-figure jury verdict in Nassau County on breach of contract grounds for a commercial window manufacturer whose progress payments were wrongly withheld on a New York City construction project.
  • 2023: Achieved a favorable verdict in Dutchess County for a food distributor following a catastrophic motor vehicle accident. In a damages-only trial where liability was pre-determined in the plaintiff’s favor, the jury awarded only a fraction of the pre-trial settlement demand.
  • 2023: Recovered substantial back rent for a commercial landlord in Fulton County following a breach-of-contract trial.
  • 2020: Won a defense verdict in Ulster County on behalf of a food distributor sued for millions after the plaintiff underwent multiple spinal surgeries stemming from a trucking accident.

Christian leverages his courtroom experience to secure favorable out-of-court results for clients. Above all, he is a problem-solver, dedicated to accessibility, responsiveness, and efficiency, with a laser focus on advancing his clients’ long-term interests by guiding them in a manner that avoids risk and exposure.

In addition to his litigation practice, Christian counsels clients on a range of employer and business matters, including executive and equity compensation, employment and partnership agreements, shareholder disputes, OSHA and Department of Labor issues, post-employment covenants, workplace claims, and crisis management.

He also handles high-stakes commercial and tort litigation, including contract disputes, product liability, wrongful death, insurance coverage, and employment litigation matters. Christian has substantial experience prosecuting and defending claims involving unfair competition, trade secrets, trademarks, confidentiality agreements, fraud, defamation, and breach of fiduciary duty. He is frequently retained in buyout and professional liability cases involving engineers, architects, directors, officers, and attorneys. His practice encompasses all phases of litigation in federal, state, administrative, and appellate courts nationwide.

A longtime commercial client recently shared:

“He’s a sharp courtroom attorney. In that moment, what I needed was a litigator [and] level-headed guidance. Someone who could see the legal risks and the family dynamics at play. Christian was that person. He didn’t just talk strategy. He listened. He was a sounding board, a voice of reason, and a steady presence when everything felt like it was unraveling. Christian has that rare ability to give legal advice that actually works in the real world. He understands the dynamics of family businesses — the unspoken tensions, the history, the legacy — and he helps you navigate that with clarity and care. He helped us protect the business, preserve relationships, and move forward stronger. You learn a lot about someone when you go through a fire with them. And I learned this: Christian Soller is the kind of person you want by your side.”

Prior to joining Hodgson Russ, Christian was associated with O’Connor Redd Orlando LLP, where he tried multiple civil cases to verdict on behalf of defendants. He was also a prosecutor in Orange County, where he took several criminal cases to trial.

Representative Work

Christian is known for his ability to secure favorable decisions for his clients. Recently, he successfully sued a manufacturer for breach of contract on behalf of a volunteer fire district (client), after the manufacturer failed to fulfill a contract to build a firetruck for $1.7 million. The defendant claimed pandemic-related hardships and delays, arguing that performance was impossible in the absence of an additional $187,000 payment. After securing favorable deposition testimony and documents showing that the volatility of the firetruck supply chain was apparent before the contract price was set, Christian filed for summary judgment, asserting bad faith. The Court upheld the original contract price, and the truck was delivered shortly thereafter at a reduced price.

Other notable victories:

  • 2024: Secured a six-figure jury verdict in Nassau County on breach of contract grounds for a commercial window manufacturer whose progress payments were wrongly withheld on a New York City construction project.
  • 2023: Achieved a favorable verdict in Dutchess County for a food distributor following a catastrophic motor vehicle accident. In a damages-only trial where liability was pre-determined in the plaintiff’s favor, the jury awarded only a fraction of the pre-trial settlement demand.
