Andrew J. Freedman

Andrew focuses his practice on education law and has extensive experience counseling school districts and charter schools on the full range of complex legal challenges they face. He has represented schools in proceedings before New York Courts and appeals to the Commissioner of Education. He advises school boards on their powers and duties under the New York State Education Law. He also represents schools in labor and employment matters, student services, and special education litigation.

Andrew is also co-leader of the firm’s Food & Beverage practice group. Andrew has extensive experience with responding to government agency enforcement actions, labeling and packaging, and developing food recycling programs for state compliance. Our practice group handles food safety & product recalls, product development, promotion, advertising, and compliance with importing/exporting regulations.   

Andrew was appointed by the Chief Judge of the State of New York to serve as a member of the Richard C. Failla LGBTQ Commission. Andrew is also Deputy Treasurer of the Bar Association of Erie County and Co-Chair of its LGBTQIA+ Committee. He serves as a board member of the Minority Bar Foundation. He is currently the Second Vice President for the New York State Association of School Attorneys and is a member of the Minority Bar Association.

An alumnus of the University at Buffalo School of Law, Andrew was named one of the top education law attorneys by his peers in “Best Lawyers” and Business First’s “Who’s Who in Law” on numerous occasions. He taught Education Law as an adjunct professor at the University at Buffalo School of Law, Buffalo State University, and Canisius University.
